Event Highlight
Glass in gas (GIG) is to insert optical fiber cable into gas pipeline at strategic and congested locations where cable laying by traditional method is not feasible. It helps expand the telecom network in an efficient way. It was a technology developed in Europe more than two decades ago. In Hong Kong, the situation is quite uncommon as our town gas is rich in hydrogen that the effect of hydrogen darkening to the fiber optics is a concern. Special design consideration is adopted in our local applications. Sometimes it is not that easy to apply due to the constraint of pipeline configuration, but once it is applicable, GIG is absolutely convenient and cost effective to extend our telecom network. In this webinar, the technology and application of GIG in Hong Kong will be introduced.
