Report

22 members from the HKIE Gas and Energy Division and the Hong Kong Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association took part in a joint technical visit tour in Y. Park at Tsang Tsui, Tuen Mun on 05 November 2022.

During this technical visit to Y . Park, Yard Waste Recycling Center and  AEL operated the facility which is located in Tsang Tsui, Tuen Mun adjacent to WENT landfill and the first Government established a temporary yard waste recycling site to recycle the fallen trees generated and other general yard waste in Hong Kong. Thanks to an excellent presentation by the AEL staff followed by an extensive site tour to the upcycled exhibits at the Resources Centre and Upcycled Products Showroom. Members were able to understand the scale of yard waste recycling and diversify the types of recyclable products.

Its aim is to promote recycling of yard waste into useful materials, reducing disposal at landfills and relevant carbon emission, realising “zero landfill” and facilitating carbon neutrality in the long run. Y·PARK is equipped with various installations and members then inspected including wood shredders, wood cutting machine, drying and sterilisation unit etc., which can transform suitable yard waste into various useful materials such as wood boards, wood beams, wood chips and sawdust etc.

Yard waste producers are encouraged to reuse or recycle twigs, leaves, grass clippings, and other yard waste on-site via composting and other appropriate means as far as practicable. Y·PARK mainly receives 6m long or below tree trunks and its attached tree branches, twigs and leaves.

After the technical visit, members can get the useful souvenirs about own decorative woodworking and wood chips for planting. Thanks to both AEL and HKFCHEA / HKIE staff for hosting the very informative, absorbing and interesting visit.
