Event Highlight
This technical seminar
invites Prof. Xiang from the Division of Integrative Systems and Design, HKUST.
He will introduce his R&D of climate adaptive solar façade in Norway and
Hong Kong. Building consumes around 40% of energy globally, and the ratio
reaches 90% in Hong Kong. To reduce carbon emissions, promote clean energy
systems and mitigate climate changes in cities, advanced solutions are needed.
Prof. Xiang’s research focuses on integrating smart colourful PV systems into
building envelopes (especially the façades) which can change tall buildings in
large cities from pure energy-consumptive units into energy-productive
facilities. Novel high-efficiency and tailored opaque colour PV materials, and
semi-transparent PV glazing are now available for pilot projects, presenting
promising application scenarios in Hong Kong. Related research in Norwegian
contexts and some ongoing projects in Hong Kong (e.g. HKUST campus, SOCAM demo
site) will be introduced. Besides energy and aesthetic aspects,
climate-adaptive design including smart control and combined vertical greenery
systems will also be discussed during the sharing.
