Around 400 members attended the captioned webinar organised by the EG Division on 20 September 2023. The webinar was conducted by the Vice Chairman of the EG Division Ir Jason Fan.
The main objective of the webinar was to explain how to handle the media and community stakeholders during times of crisis. The webinar covered the key characteristics of a crisis, the establishment of a crisis management team (CMT),and provided valuable insights through the analysis of two practical case studies.
The presentation began by defining the characteristics of a crisis. Ir Fan emphasised that a crisis is an unpredictable event that has the potential to affect an organisation's reputation, operations, and stakeholder relationships. Understanding the unique nature of a crisis is crucial for effectively managing it.
The webinar delved into the strategies needed to address the media and community stakeholders during a crisis. The significance of transparency, empathy, and timely communication was emphasised. Ir Fan provided practical tips on establishing and maintaining positive relationships with the media, as well as engaging with the community in a respectful and empathetic manner. Two practical case studies were analysed to illustrate the concepts discussed.
